Bieler Family Wines

The Story

These eponymous wines reflect our deep commitment to the most distinct vineyards in France and Washington State. Not just to the land but to the meticulous process of caring for the vines and ushering them to the pinnacle of their potential. Our approach is mindful, deliberate. A love letter of sorts to the grit and passion that every great wine demands. Scouring the region for the perfect vineyard blocks. Co-fermenting different varieties to craft a seamlessly integrated blend. We don’t cut corners. Because the easy way out isn’t nearly as interesting

The Wines

  • Born to Run Cabernet

When he was 22 Charles Bieler finished college early, painted a 1965 Cadillac Deville pink, and drove it straight into a wine industry he knew nothing about. For two years he lived out of his Caddy, touring the country and selling his father’s rosé out of the trunk. Over 20 years later and he still runs on that same passion and hustle. The result is a rich, soft California cabernet sauvignon blended with dark brooding and structured cabernet sauvignon from Washington State. A gorgeous blend that’s all its own and more complex than its parts. So get in. Put the top down. And never look back.

  • Daisy Skin Contact (Orange)

We make this orange wine almost exactly as we do our red wines. For us that process starts with world class sustainable farming and low winemaker intervention in the winery. 15% of the fruit is left whole cluster, 85% destemmed. Fermentations are left to start by native yeasts so can take a few days to get going. Fermentations concluded after 15 days but we kept the wine, skins and stems together for another 20 days (35 days total on the skins). After the wine was pressed off its skins half went to old barrels and half to tank. To maximize the wines character, we only lightly fined and filtered it which may add a hazy hue to the wine in your glass. Don’t be concerned! This wine offers aromas of orange peel, dried apricot, white peach, floral, potpourri, roasted nuts, hints of ginger and wild strawberry. The palate is full and rich with silky tannins. As we have a dollop of pinot grigio which naturally has a pink hue, our Daisy Hazy has a slightly pinkish quality to the amber color.

  • Daisy Pinot Grigio

Let’s be honest, most Pinot Grigio out there is really boring! Sure, there are some exceptions, but you have to spend quite a lot. The challenge was to make a distinctive, complex, and fuller style Pinot Grigio at a price that everyone can afford. The inspiration is the high tone and surprisingly full whites of Northern Italy. Pinot Grigio from the Ancient Lakes AVA dominates and sets the tone for the blend. Riesling from the legendary Art Denhoed Vineyard lifts aromas and brings a racy key lime quality. Muscat from the Upland Vineyard brings an exotic depth of fruit, while Sauvignon Blanc from the Sunset Vineyard in the Ancient Lakes brings some citrus and savory elements. This results in gorgeous aromas of hay, grapefruit, lychee, licorice and summer flowers with an underlying flinty minerality. These characteristics carry through to a surprisingly rich mid palate and bright, crisp finish.
